Le Tour de France returns to the Cantal in 2024.

Stage 11, Wednesday 10 july from Évaux-es-Bains to Le Lioran.

Stage 12, Thursday 11 july from Aurillac to Villeneuve-sur-Lot.

We are perfectly placed between the climbs to Pas de Peyrol, col de Purtus and Le Lioran for the stage 11 arrival. Also for the grand depart at Aurillac on stage 12.

Only a few minutes away from some amazing places to watch the caravan pass and to cheer the pro cyclists as they sweep through the beautiful Cantal countryside.

 Cycle on the Tour de France routes

The roads of the Cantal are ideal for cyclists of all abilities, from families with children to enthusiasts or professionals. The road surfaces are smooth, clear and exceptionally quiet. You can follow wide roads with cycle areas to the side and take tiny winding lanes up over the hills and mountains. Open views over beautiful countryside through ancient and peaceful villages. No need to rush, you can take your time to enjoy the views. There is bike hire possible at Lac des Graves, 1.5 kms or even electric bike hire at Mandailles, 7 kms if you wanted a more leisurely ride up to Puy Mary.

The Tour de France passes through the Cantal regularly and you can follow the Tour routes from our doorstep.

For the more enthusiastic cyclists there are dozens of climbs to test you and we can help provide you with data and GPX files to follow in the wheels of some of cyclings legends. In 2020 stage 13 finished at Pas de Peyrol, 1589m, with the final 2 kms at over 13 percent gradient. The valleys are joined by passes with short sharp climbs of 200-400 metres where you are rewarded with stunning views before an exhilarating descent. The route of the ridges circular ride from here takes in 4 climbs and 75 kms, a stunning ride which can be done in either direction for a very different ride each time. If you are feeling very energetic you can try all 3 routes up and down to Puy Mary from each side of the mountain.

 La Grande Traversee du Volcan a Vélo

La Grande Traversee or GT2V passes right by our door at La Maison Normande and is one of the fantastic long distance France Velo Tourisme routes. It travels 160 kms between the Lot and the Allier valleys and climbs up the beautiful Jordanne valley and crosses the mountains at Pas de Peyrol 1589m. For more details follow the link below.
